About Avianca: Avianca was the first commercial airline founded in America and the second in the world. The company was born on December 5th, 1919 in Barranquilla (Colombia), with the name of “Sociedad Colombo-German Air Transport.” The first flight operated by the company departed from Barranquilla to Puerto Colombia in a Junker F13. This flight transported passengers and mail. In the beginning, Avianca’s fleet consisted of two aircraft types Junker that due to the topography of the country, had coupled floaters that allowed them to float in rivers.

In the mid-1920s, the company opened its international flights to Venezuela and the United States. In 1940, the company changed its name to Avianca. Today, its fleet has increased to 49 aircraft and covers 18 destinations in Colombia and 17 more in the rest of America and Europe.

Headquartered in Bogotá, Avianca offers 220 flights a day and operates in more than 6,000 connections, including direct flights and code-share flights with major airlines such as Air Canada, Iberia, Delta Air Lines, among others. The aim of Avianca 2010 is to become the first airline in Latin America.
